Mountains

Mountains and hiking go hand in hand. Once you discover hiking, you tend to visit quite a few mountains. Hershey was an accomplished climber. Some of the mountains she visited included the Rockies in Colorado and Utah, Mt. St. Helens in Washington, Mt. Hood in Oregon, and the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona. In Germany she explored several of the peaks in the Alps; even getting to the top of Eagle's Nest (Hitler’s hideaway).

In the winter, the mountains were always a great place to go skiing. While we were living in Germany, we all discovered the fun of cross-country skiing. Hershey thought this was a great way to have fun in the snow, while playing around in the mountains. She became quite accomplished at staying on the ski trail. That way she wouldn’t sink in the snow.

When we would take a break on the trail, Hershey would just sit down on the skis. Smart girl she was.
