Now I lay my pet to sleep,
I pray the lord his soul to keep,
Cause I know I'll hear his running feet
From the outside of the pearly gate when again we will meet.

From the side of my loved ones he has raced
To lick the tears from my face,
I will then greet and meet the rest,
While putting his obedience and patience to the test.

Then we will find a place to run and play,
We will toss, fetch, and tumble all day,
We will find a great tree and grass as plush as a rug,
And I will lay down with my pet held so close and snug.

But, now I lay my pet to sleep
So please Lord his soul is yours to keep
Make him healthy, happy, and round again
Because he is not a dog, he is my best friend.

Amen
